| Word | What it means |
|---|---|
| Activity | Any poll, quiz, rating, ranking, word cloud, open text question or survey |
| AGM | Annual general meeting. A formal meeting where members vote. |
| Announcement | A short message shown over the video for every viewer for about 15 seconds |
| Anonymous question | A question where the asker's name is hidden from the audience. The producer still sees it. |
| Approve | Let a question or answer be seen by everyone |
| Backup stream | A second video feed, ready in case the main one stops |
| Breakout room | A smaller room under a main event, with its own page and video. Also called a room or parallel room. |
| Captions (CC) | Words on screen showing what's being said |
| Castr | The video service that carries JPC's live streams |
| Channel | One Castr stream (with an optional backup) that an event uses while it's live |
| Console | The tabs on the producer page: Questions, Polls & clouds, Announce, Hosts and Switches. Also called the producer console. |
| CSV | A spreadsheet file you can open in Excel |
| Cue | A short instruction sent to a host's screen, like "Wrap up" |
| Encoder | The machine or program that sends the video to Castr |
| Event | One live stream, like a town hall or an AGM. It has its own page and link. |
| Guest | A viewer who typed just a name. Their name isn't checked. |
| Holding slide | The picture viewers see before the show and during breaks |
| Host | A presenter, MC or speaker. Hosts get a private link to see questions and cues. |
| Host link | A private web address that opens the host page on an iPad or phone |
| In the room | Watching at the venue, ahead of the stream. The app waits for the delay before your actions reach viewers. |
| Invite list | The emails allowed into an "invited people only" event |
| Lower third | A strip across the bottom of the video, used for questions on screen |
| Moderate | To check a question or comment before anyone else sees it |
| MP4 | A normal video file you can download and keep |
| Officer | A person running a formal meeting: chair, returning officer, secretary and so on |
| Producer | Someone who runs an event: checks questions, runs polls, goes live |
| Producer page | The page where producers run an event |
| Proxy | Someone allowed to vote for another member |
| QR code | A square barcode people scan with a phone camera to join |
| Quorum | The smallest number of members needed for a meeting to make decisions |
| Ranking | An activity where people put a list in order |
| Register | The list of members who can vote, and how many votes each has |
| Registration | Signing up for an event before it starts |
| Replay | The recording people can watch after the event |
| Resolution | A proposal members vote on at a formal meeting |
| Reveal results | Show a poll's results to viewers |
| Secret ballot | A vote where nobody can see how a member voted |
| Sign-in code | A 6-digit number emailed to you to sign in. Also called an email code. There are no passwords. |
| Stream delay | How many seconds viewers' picture is behind real life (about 20 to 30 seconds) |
| Switches | The console tab that turns Q&A, polls, word clouds, reactions and the QR code on or off |
| This stream | Watching the stream like a viewer. Your actions go out straight away. |
| Word cloud | An activity where people type words, and popular words show bigger |
